Oh Maggie!  I think any artist can relate to those feelings, I know I can.  I struggle with my writing but the artwork I do is very personal to me as well.  I find feedback very helpful.  I want the author of the book that I create the cover for to be as proud of that cover representing their creation as I am of what I created for them. November's Creative Writing ContestEveryone has a story that leaves them, and everyone around them, in tears from laughing so hard - and the majority of the time, it's from a get together of either family or friends. Now, you can use that experience, real or embellished, and enter this month's contest! The deadline for our October Creative Writing Contest is quickly approaching...do you have your entry ready to submit?

I have been working on a couple of stories lately and have found myself struggling to keep some details correct (I've even managed to change a characters' name mid-story) so I have decided to try to keep a log of my characters with all the important details on it.  At least this way I have something to reference back to.  This is something I've noticed other writers do as well (even George R. R. Martin has a friend in another country that keeps everything straight for him...he admits he calls him often.)Perhaps other writers don't use a spreadsheet per-say but many often have some method of keeping track of their characters physical attributes, personality traits, friends/relatives, weaponry and in general unique characteristics.  This is something I have compiled to use and I've decided to share it with the forum.  Naturally you you may not use everything I placed on this log when you write, so feel free to modify it to best suit your needs.  I hope you find it useful!

The other day I had a brief conversation with a friend of mine who has been writing for years!  While updating him on some of Imzadi's new events I inquired how his writing was going.  I was astonished when he told me "I haven't really done any writing for awhile now, I just feel like I'm a fraud...not a real writer."  Once I picked my jaw up off the ground and wiped off the gravel I asked why he felt that way.  He responded, "I don't really write stuff that anyone would take seriously, I feel like others will see right through me and know I'm not REALLY a writer."This conversation made me think about a couple of other friends of mine who are writers as well and I reflected that they have also said similar things about their writing.  So, I wonder, do you feel the same about your writing?  Do you feel you aren't REALLY a real writer?  Do you feel others won't view you as a REAL writer?Guess what?  You ARE a real writer.  You don't have to be a published author to be a "writer".  You don't have to sell copies of your work to be a "writer."  Truthfully, no one else even has to read your work for you to be a "writer."  What you DO have to do...is write.  Does it matter what you write?  No.  Romance, mystery, action/adventure, sci/fi, paranormal, poetry, text books, erotica, short-story, novel or magazine review; it really doesn't matter.  If you have a reason to sit down and scribe words...you ARE a writer.As Richard Bach (the author of "Johnathan Livingston Seagull") once said - "A professional writer is an amateur who didn’t quit."  Don't quit!  Keep writing!
